Before starting training you need to get screened and have a Training Program written.
Why do I screen Clients before writing a Program?
My business is built on health and getting people with busy professional lifestyles and their inevitable dysfunctions into training. This means that correcting tightness and asymmetry is often the first priority. The fitness industry often promotes pushing through pain and working harder as the only path. This approach is shortsighted and is what prevents and discourages people from exercise.
In order to know what movements can be strengthened, which movements require additional simultaneous corrective work and whether any movements will require a gently approach or even a physio appointment a screen on required. To this end I have achieved a Certification in Functional Movement Screening.
The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a system that documents the movement patterns that are key to normal function. By screening these patterns, the FMS can find functional limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce the effects of training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness potentially leading to injury. The FMS generates the Functional Movement Screen Score, which is used to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns.
